CA quashes decision to send nurses on compulsory retirement at age 60



The Court of Appeal yesterday issued a Writ of Certiorari quashing the government's decision made to send public officers (including four grades of nursing services) on compulsory retirement at age 60. This order will be applicable to the nursing service especially officers in Grade I, Supra Grade, Special Grade and Executive Grade of Sri Lanka nursing service.

The Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justice (President) Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and M.A.R. Marikar made this order after hearing into a writ petition filed by Rajya Seva Eksath Heda Sangamaya, Rev. Muruththettuwa Ananda Thera and Colombo National Hospital's Chief Nursing Training Officer.

The Court of Appeal further issued a Writ of Mandamus reinstating all officers of Sri Lanka nursing service especially officers in Grade I, Supra Grade, Special Grade and Executive Grade of Sri Lanka nursing service who had been sent on compulsory retirement by way of a gazette.
