CEB, Power and Energy Ministry probe power failure

Parliament, Dec 10 (Daily Mirror) - Both the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Power and Energy Ministry are carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the sudden island-wide power blackout yesterday, State Minister Indika Anurudda said.

The State Minister said a greater percentage of power was being generated through hydropower at the time of the failure.

"There was a demand of 1,500 MW at the time of the failure while only 300 MW was being generated through the Norochcholai power plant," he said.

Hope lightning does not strike twice, after the bill presented in Parlaiment which had Greek letters and words only understood by the Minister. These signs from above are a sad reflection as to how deals have been worked out where no will understand. Keep going until the next election.

Island wide tripping of power lines is joke... The country is smaller than a small state of india.... Further more max demand don't exceed 1500 mw... If ceb cannot manage this then something is wrong

Lightening strikes shouldn’t take all feeders out of action, should trip only the section affected by lightning unless the main incoming feeder (in this hydro power input) is affected, can trip the whole power grid due to overload, if load shedding was in manual, not in Auto (left in manual by human error). Go through the process history on control system at the start of blackout. That should shed light on the First out for the trip!

Don't joke. Maybe where you live, their is extra capacity, but not much real improvement has happened since the British left. Local culture is not about quality of infrastructure, it is about back room deals for corrupt politicians and officials to get rich on the backs of the poor. Only with overhaul of Parliament and President posts at least can there be any hope of reliable electricity here.

1000 Engineers working for CEB couldn't prevent this outage. They are the highest paid engineers when compared with other employers. It is nothing but sabotage

This uneducated ministers statement cannot be trusted. This fellow know how to supply earth for construction sites. The electricity issue to be investigated properly and not to repeat again. There is a strong possibility of a man made error.
