CEB to get new salary structure based on performance

Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is set to introduce a new salary structure, performance-based incentive system, and promotion process for its employees in the coming weeks.

In an X post, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said this was discussed during a recent meeting with the trade unions of the CEB.

During the discussions, it was deliberated to revise the existing approved cadre of 26,000+ to reduce the number of employees recruited in the future.

The discussions also covered the structure of the reforms, timelines for implementing different tasks, appointments to successor companies, human resource management, salary structures and policy and management decisions.

The current salaries will be used as a basis. If performance is good, there will be additional bonuses, although I doubt that there are any CEB employees who perform well. So not a single rupee will be saved, quite the opposite. This lazy CEB pack must finally be exposed to the wind of privatization, where those who perform poorly will face dismissal, which is absolutely necessary, as the CEB is four times overstaffed.

In the US, the standard method for annual salary increment consideration is a written performance review by the boss and employee. A form is issued by the company to the department head. Boss gives performance feedback on the employee and the employee fills out their part as a response to what the boss has written about them. It is done on the same form and signed by both employee and boss after discussing what each has written. Any shortcomings noted by boss is discussed and noted on the form accepting that both are aware of what is written and discussed. Each segment reviewed is given a score. The higher they score the higher the percentage increment which is maximum 5%. Form is then submitted to the company leadership who will further review and approve, alter or deny the suggested salary increase based not only on the information on the form but the attendance, commitment, work ethic and quality of work and other measurable factors.
