CEB to seek approval for electricity tariff reduction

Colombo, Jan 03 (Daily Mirror) -  The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is set to present a proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) for a reduction in electricity tariffs.

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced on 'X' (Twitter) that the CEB will submit the proposal next week.

The impending tariff reduction comes in response to the increased utilization of hydropower generation, made possible by unprecedented levels of rainfall. Minister Wijesekera had previously indicated a mid-January timeframe for the power tariff revision, signalling a positive development for consumers.

In addition to the tariff proposal, Minister Wijesekera disclosed that comprehensive reforms for the CEB would be introduced in Parliament with necessary amendments for approval.

Acknowledging potential resistance to the reforms, Minister Wijesekera emphasized the importance of uninterrupted services. He stated, "Instructions have been given to the CEB management to suspend and take appropriate disciplinary action against any employee that disrupts the services or acts in violation of the guidelines issued by the CEB management."
