The CID, which is conducting investigations against the self-proclaimed Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva Mahinda Kodithuwakku for allegedly insulting Buddhism and offending religious feelings, informed court today that they have sought the Attorney General’s advice regarding future legal action against the suspect.
The CID told the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that they have requested the Attorney General’s advice on whether the case against the suspect can be maintained.
Defence counsel who appeared on behalf of the suspect informed Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura that the case cannot be maintained if the suspect is suffering from a mental illness. He further told court that there are medical reports to support that the suspect is suffering with mental illness.
The suspect, Mahinda Kodithuwakku, was arrested on January 15, 2024, by the CID for allegedly insulting Buddhism and offending religious feelings. He is currently out on bail. The matter was fixed for June 18.
