CID to grill Keheliya today

Colombo, Jan 31 (Daily Mirror) - Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has been summoned before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a statement to be recorded today regarding the import of substandard Immunoglobulin injections, a highly placed authoritative source told the Daily Mirror.

According to the source, Rambukwella, who is also the Environment Minister, has confirmed that he will appear before the CID within the day. The CID recorded a statement from him earlier too.

Most of the substandard medicines that had killed many patients in Sri Lankan hospitals were imported from India. The former Health Minister has to be investigated along with Sri Lankan doctors involved in the purchasing of the Indian medicines. But if Indian companies that actually manufactured these “dangerous” medicines and sold them to Sri Lanka are not probed by the Sri Lankan authorities then this CID investigation of the Health Minister would lead definitely to nowhere.

There is no case for Keheliya. He did not purchase substandard drugs instead of genuine Immunoglobulin injections. He just got them 'manufactured' in his friend's backyard saving US$ millions for Sri Lanka. Many patients may have died but that is also a good thing as Sri Lanka is highly overpopulated.
