CPC fuel prices revised

Colombo, Jan 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has decided to revise its fuel prices with effect from midnight today.

Accordingly, a litre of Lanka Petrol 92 Octane (Rs. 366) has been increased by Rs. 5, and its new retail price will be Rs. 371.

A litre of Lanka Petrol 95 Octane Euro 4 (Rs. 464) has been reduced by Rs. 8, and its new retail price will be Rs. 456.

A litre of Lanka Auto Diesel (Rs. 358) has been increased by Rs. 5, and its new retail price will be Rs. 363.

A litre of Lanka Super Diesel 4 Star Euro 4 (Rs. 475) has been reduced by Rs. 7, and its new retail price will be Rs. 468.

A litre of Lanka Kerosene (Rs. 236) has been increased by Rs. 7, and its new retail price will be Rs. 262.

With effect from midnight today, all Ceylon 3 wheeler drivers will increase fares by Rs. 5/- per km.

They have reduced the price.of Super Petrol and Super Diesel. May be sales must have drop and more importantly most of the luxury vehicles pump Super petrol or diesel......

Most modern-day vehicles us Octane 94 with E-10 (10% Ethanol), which is environmentally friendly!!? They don't require higher octane like 95 or 98!?

The reason is because the previous increase was too high (to cover subsidies of others) still it is covering the prices of others. Like the taxpayers paying to cover all those fighting for subsidized everything!

This is a big game played by thr CPC. What is reduced this month is increased next month. Where is the competition that was promised when the foreign traders were allowed in to the business.

Oil prices are down in the world markets, this increase will benefit the foreign fuel retailers in Sri Lanka as they can earn windfall profits. CPC is loosing because there are too many trade unions and too many staff getting salaries without doing any meaningful work.

This astronomical increase is beyond the financial means of the common man. With nearly 10 million automobiles traversing the streets, the daily demand for fuel has escalated to 50 million litres. This predicament is a consequence of past errors and the current government's failure to construct a metro rail network connecting major cities—a betrayal and a national tragedy.
