Cabinet approves continued egg imports

Colombo, July 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to continue importing eggs.

This follows a Cabinet decision on March 18, 2024, after which the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has imported 224 million eggs to date.

Of these, 95% have been distributed to consumers at an affordable price of Rs. 37 per egg.

The allocated period for egg imports ended on April 30, 2024. In light of this, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal by the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security to continue importing eggs.

This initiative aims to stabilize egg prices in the market and ensure an adequate supply for the upcoming Ramadan and Christmas celebrations, as well as for the bakery industry, including cake production.
