Cabinet nod for final report on increasing public service salaries

Colombo, September 03 (PMD) - The Cabinet has approved the Presidential Expert Committee's final report, which recommends increasing public service salaries and allowances effective January 1, 2025, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the recommendations of the Expert Committee to increase public service salaries and allowances will be implemented through the Ministry of Finance and it is his desire to increase the income of all citizens of this country.

RW said increasing public servant's salary by Rs. 10000/- is not possible as economy will face severe setback if we do so !!! Now how on earth he found the money to increase salaries and do away with farmers loan.

In no time they will increase taxes of everyone and from everywhere to recover these huge expenditures. Hope the younger and educated voters will vote wisely and accordingly. You have seen over the years how the citizens were treated and only now after opposition parties highlighted the areas they are gonna to reevaluate the situation, Ranil suddenly approves everything. Once he gets into power again, there is no turning back until next elections.

We accept that this is a bankrupt country, we have to pay back the IMF loans, in the meantime we have increased public servants' salaries, VAT was increased to augment govenment revenue, VAT affects the entire population, middle class and poverty line categories are mostly affected by VAT, how will government find money to pay public servants' salaries, there were money countries that could not pay public servants' salaries despite agreeing to increase public servants' salaries, hope this scenerio doesn't fall on our public servants. This is an election gimmick and breaks all norms of election law. This alone shows how bankrupt he has become. I would also like to know why only public servants. What about the private sector who has to toils a full day for a small salary while the public sector does sweet nothing during their work hours.
