Cabraal, four others released from Treasury Bill case
Colombo, May 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo High Court today ordered to release former Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal and four others from a corruption case filed by the Bribery Commission.
The Colombo High Court made this order taking into account the preliminary objections raised by the defence challenging the maintainability of the case.
The Bribery Commission had filed indictments against five accused for causing a loss of Rs. 1,843.3 million to the government through the purchase of Treasury Bills in 2012.

A brand new party should take over and change the judiciary. All these fellas had somehow manipulated with the finance of the country. How did The Bribery Commission bring up the case the first place? Obviously there is a flaw in the way cases are heard in SL. Most cases are brought up and soon after they are dismissed. Mickey Mouse court system and SL is supposed to be a educated country.

Nothing will happen to these guys. Even recent judgement given by SC against Paksha Clan did not do anything. If you have money and top connections to law enforcement authorities nothing will happen to you. If you have money but weak connections then it can put you in trouble.

@ Just a dream....; Not the flaws of the courts but the flaws in filing the case by the Bribery Commission, intentionally but not for nothing. Otherwise, all these accused people filed a case for recovering damage on tarnishing their prestigious names.

There is something wrong and a big question with our AG departments behaviour as well as Bribery commission such cases before filed goes to AG department for final advise ! Why have they not looked at technical faults

This was anyway going to be ahrd to pin. There was no law stopping him from investing in greek bonds and as long as he can prove it was with the best intentions then this case not very strong. On a seperate note, People dont get it, but by far the worst damage Gota SLPP witht their near 2 thirds majority did was to the independence of the judiciary.

That’s why need a revamp of the political scene. The party in power now will look after the party which got kick out. This drama has been on for decades and most didn’t realise it. Hope the younger voters who are more tech savvy will throw these morons out and the new party will start proper and sound investigation of all past murder and corruption cases which were not dealt with properly. The judges too much be investigated why sensational cases were not prosecuted accordingly.

it is not judiciary but the way authorities file the case . When it is filed with many loopholes , accused counsel will highlight and Judge has to consider the legal merit of the case not the public perception

I believe that this is the ineffeicuenty of the bribery commission to file the case properly. Not that this man was released because he's innocent but the case file by the bribery commission has technical faults. What a joke. Somewhere something is wrong.

The lawyers who fight of justice must rally around and appeal this case to take it to the highest level and prove this case to punish the culprits. If not people believe our justice system only punish the disadvantage and allow the rich and the powerful to escape.
