Candidates’ policies will be key in presidential election: Anura Kumara

Colombo, July 27 (Daily Mirror)- The policies of the Presidential candidates will play a key role in the upcoming Presidential election as people are more concerned on the policies of the candidates than in previous elections, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

Speaking at an event to launch the NPP Policy Centre, he said policies and manifestos in the country were prepared in the past without consulting the experts in the respective sectors.

Dissanayake said the NPP has discussed its policies with experts for the last one and half years and added that the newly opened policy centre will provide a platform for any person who is interested in contributing their knowledge and experience with the NPP policies.

He said the NPP was launching its Election Monitoring Centre which would help people to report any violation of election laws and election related incidents.

Dissanayake also launched the AKD.lk website and said it would help people to interact with him directly.

Very true. And based on what we have heard Hadunnetti and Lalkantha say we see how scary the NPP policies really are. There is no point trying to concoct some so called policies' just to appease the electorate prior to the election. The NPP's real underlying core policies have been exposed over the past months. A leopard does not change its spots and have a miraculous rebirth immediately prior to election voting day!

Show the public the imported outsourced prepared policies of the NPP. A damn disgrace the NPP/JVP could not formulate their own policies for the Country. AKD's statement that the policy represented by the presidential candidate will be of decisive importance in the outcome of the election is basically correct! But it remains one of several factors! I maintain that the personality of the candidate, his perception and assessment by the people play an equally important role! It must be borne in mind that people's voting decisions are not exclusively rational in nature, but are strongly influenced by irrational and emotional reasons! The question is whether the policy represented by AKD, in particular the economic policy, insofar as people actually know anything about it, is seen as a real alternative to the failed policies of recent years and understood as a solution for the future development of the country!!!??? My brief conclusion: neither the ideologically based, antiquated economic policy of the NPP is convincing and crisis-overcoming, nor is AKD as a state-leading, presidential personality! Sri Lanka deserves a better president!

Policies and programmes of all the present and past conventional political parties of both the opposition and those of the government had been quite rosy. An eventual winning leader and his strategic team ( new leader or the same old) cannot impliment policies snd programes or system change from the bottom, due to corrupt government servants and politicians who still occupy the corrupt structure despite regime change at the top and shall resist change or oppose, delay in implimentation or sabotage it, if it adversely impacts their activities.and revenue streams. And also the losing opposition party and their trading business community and affiliated unions will stage strikes to discredit and anchor a fallout by way of revolts of the elected government ( very often in line with their geo political affiliations and NGO). This is why the country is at a mess for no fault of the policies, but rather the intent and the existence of this corrupt structure despite rolling heads.

Oh yes thank you for reminding us. By the way the current Presidents policies are extremely successful. He also has a good track record all the mud slinging about a bond scam not with standing. He also has an excellent vision of where he wants to take Sri Lanka. He has ample backing and respect among his peers internationally. So why do we need you? No experience, No track record, No confidence to tackle a tough situation, and above all else a reputation of trying to over throw democratically elected governments by violence and murder?
