Colombo, June 16 (Daily Mirror)- Cash rewards to traffic police officers have been increased through a special circular issued by IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The decision has been taken after considering the tedious work of the traffic police officers, like having to endure long hours on the roads in order to ensure the safety of the public and motorists.
The police chief has issued a special circular to increase the cash rewards which were paid to traffic police officers after thirteen years and to pay it monthly.
Police said in a statement that cash rewards were increased to admire the tedious duty of the traffic police officers and to uplift their welfare.
Accordingly, the cash reward paid to a Traffic OIC has been increased from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 7,000 while Officers of an inspector's rank will now get an increment from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 7,000.
The payment for a police sergeant has been increased from Rs. 1,800 to 6,000 and the payment to a police constable has been increased from Rs. 1,600 to Rs. 6,000.
Payment for a Police constable driver has been increased from Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 4,000.
