Colombo, December 20 (Daily Mirror) - Geethanath Cassilingham, the Jaffna District Chief Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), criticized the current government for failing to deliver on the promises it made during the election.
He said that over 80% of voters rejected Ranil Wickremesinghe's policies and chose the National Peoples' Power (NPP) to bring change.
"The people did not just want a new leader; they wanted to reject the failed policies that have hurt the country for years," Cassilingham said. However, he argued that the new government has not made any real changes and accused it of misleading voters during the campaign.
Cassilingham also pointed out that the same policies rejected by the majority of voters are still being followed. "What is worse is that the government is being praised by Ranil Wickremesinghe, whose policies were rejected by the people," he added.
Furthermore, he criticized President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for failing to renegotiate the terms of the IMF agreement, despite promising to do so. "During the campaign, President Dissanayake said he would reduce the tax burden on people, but the same IMF policies were accepted without change. Families are now struggling with the high cost of living, with many surviving on just one or two meals a day," Cassilingham said.
He argued that while the leaders may have changed, the rejected policies remain in place.
