Colombo, Jan 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Immigration and Emigration Department has decided to increase the fee for the issuing of passports under normal service, with effect from February 1, Immigration and Emigration Conroller General I.S.H.J. Illukpitiya said.

Accordingly, the new fee for the issue of passports under normal service will be Rs. 10,000. Earlier, the fee for the issue of passports under normal service was Rs. 5,000, he said.

The fee for an ordinary passport under normal service going up from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. This humongous increase of 100% must be a World record! How does the government expect an ordinary citizen to find the extra cost, on top of the increased prices of everything else?

Its the small wage earners who go the middle east that use the normal service, its a crime to increase this amount as they have so many other expences such as agency fees, these are are foreign currency earners for the country, why not give them a incentive, its the poor people. that always sucked for the so call rich to survive, this has got to change. God bless us the poor and needy in this country the wonder of Asia and the rest of the world
