Charith Asalanka appointed ODI captain, replacing Kusal Mendis

Colombo, July 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has appointed Charith Asalanka as the new ODI captain, replacing Kusal Mendis.

The decision comes ahead of the three-match ODI series against India, which is part of the ongoing India Tour of Sri Lanka 2024.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando, approved the 16-member squad selected for the series.

The matches are scheduled to be played on the 2nd, 4th, and 7th of August 2024 at the RPICS, Colombo.

Thank you for replacing this good for nothing 'Kusal Mendis'. Thanks to his leadership, he brought much disgrace to the country. He doesn't know how to lead himself, let alone leading the team. He is an immature, overrated lost soul. All the best for Charith. Please infuse some common sense to this team. Take a leaf from the women's team and grow.

I initially thought he is a good batsman but I was wrong. A very weak and unreliable batter. He cannot play against spin similar to Dasun. A top order batter with such weakness cannot be in the team. Also Why that young Chamidu was not included in odi squad. He seems to be a better player. Also when you have lost a series you should give chances to all who did not play before but we did not see that in third T20. Both wellalage and Chandi should have being given chances instead of Theekshana and Wanindu. I think it is high time to drop all from Kadamond.

Everybody including the coach and Minister should step down due to the dismal performance of the team.The players are more interested in showing off their flashy and thick gold chains than their batting skills. Wearing of flashy gold chains should be banned whilr playing international matches.Its a real disgrace for our poor country.

Can't we appoint Chamari as the captain of the Men's team. We all saw the disgraceful performance of our men yesterday in the 3rd T20. The captain of course did well in the series. 2 ducks and 14 runs. Not bad at all.

The new talented kid, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, who performed so well with the ball and squared the match when all Rich(co)mendians failed, is omitted. They always choose to go with non performing same useless brainless lot. Really, there must be a good reason. Indian Cricket Board is rich eh?! Sniff foul for the management showing intent to get what they want by choosing the worst players. Hey, well done the gang of Richmond-Galle! The Gang of Rich(com)endians must be investigated.

It's not the team in the field ,it's the team on top the cause of this situation. Jayasooriya was a good batsman Not a coach, Tharanga a batsman too,but too far to be a selector. The SLC board including the chairman Not Visionaries for the betterment of Cricket SL,but their personal gains only.
