Cheated on promise of marriage

Padukka, Dec.29 (Daily Mirror) - An individual who cheated a young woman on the promise of marriage and obtained from her more than Rs.2.5 million, is to be arrested by Padukka Police.

The victim is a young woman running a beauty parlour at Godagama in Homagama. She stated to police that the suspect introduced himself as a Software Engineer and a resident of Canada and that she opened a bank account for his transactions. Her mother had allowed him to live in a two-storied house purchased by her.

Meanwhile, he had at times borrowed money from the victim amounting to more than Rs.4.5 million under false pretexts.

Investigations revealed that the suspect was father of two children and that he had introduced his wife as his sister and that she had often had telephone conversation with the complainant.

Police said that the suspect had been wearing a wig to conceal his true identity.
