Christmas décor tops imports after two years: Customs

Colombo, Dec.6 (Daily Mirror) - Christmas decorations and goodies have topped the list of imports thus far since the relaxing of all import restrictions since October this year, Sri Lanka Customs said.

Customs spokesperson Senior Director Seevali Arukgoda told the Daily Mirror that Christmas decorations and such goodies have arrived in large consignments during the past few weeks to cater to the country’s festive needs.

He said this is noteworthy since early October all import restrictions except for private motorcars had been relaxed in Sri Lanka and festive decorations too were part of the restricted items for two years.

Most of these festive goods consignments, especially in large 40-footer and 20-footer containers arrive from China and many traders seemed to be actively engaged in the business this year.

The official said next to decorations specialty food items as well as floor and wall tiles also top the import lists at present.
