Clean Sri Lanka programme will bring vast social reforms: Prime Minister

Parliament, January 08 (Daily Mirror)- The Clean Sri Lanka programme will bring vast social reforms and a positive change to certain media institutions, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya told Parliament today.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya who was responding to a question raised by ruling party MP Asitha Egodawithana that the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme should cover reforming media as well, said it will bring positive changes to media. “Sun will shine on certain media institutions as a result of the Clean Sri Lanka programme,” she said.

MP Egodawithana said certain media institutions do not live up to their names. He said the Clean Sri Lanka programme should address this issue.

The Prime Minister informed the House that a two day debate on the Clean Sri Lanka programme on January 21st and 22nd.

“We have got a mandate for social transformation rather than a mere change of government. Therefore the Clean Sri Lanka programme will bring such a transformation. Sri Lanka will become a nation of smiling people as a result of this programme,” the Premier said.

She said institutions pertaining to the Clean Sri Lanka Programme will be legally constituted soon. “There will be a national level Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat under the President while there will be district level and village level. There will also be a Clean Sri Lanka fund. People could participate in the programme actively and they could also provide financial assistance for it,” the Prime Minister added.

Better to clean up the public toilets first...start from pettah station, bus stands , universities , public places..... and next place some garbage collectors in suitable areas , arrange council tractors to collect home garbage as per the schedule days ... In Gampaha municipal areas some weeks , garbage collecting tractors never turn up... may be same thing in other areas too...

Clean Sri Lanka will be the pride of all citizens. Some areas to be cleaned, the area of transport, the Police officers who are behind must know the rules. I have noted that some changes to the vehicles have been made with approval of the relevant government agency (Motor Traffic) and Bus owners have the approval/s in writing. The officers must first study what the agency has allowed and if what is allowed is lawful. If not first take steps to deal with the Agency, cause the agency to withdraw the approvals before requiring the bus owners to make changes removing the extras.

What is this crazy project all about? Is it to distract the public from the fact that we are still waiting for REAL changes to occur. Cost of living, standard of living, food availability, improved education systems and the list goes on and on. Instead of which, we are about to embark on a mammoth project that will eat into our fast dwindling financial resources, encourage corruption and create dissent and frustration among those who voted you in. Stop messing about and get the real jobs done.

Who can smile when their stomachs are rumbling in hunger, children crying for food, parents are not able to provide their children a special meal at least on a special occasion, aged parents who were once able to look after themselves with their interest on savings, now have become beggars!! You can see old people asking for help from passersby!! Smile indeed!!!!!! Come down to earth first!!!! People voted for this government through sheer frustration and anger towards previous governments, nothing else and now all are at the receiving end of that!!
