Clean Sri Lanka programme will bring vast social reforms: Prime Minister

Parliament, January 08 (Daily Mirror)- The Clean Sri Lanka programme will bring vast social reforms and a positive change to certain media institutions, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya told Parliament today.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya who was responding to a question raised by ruling party MP Asitha Egodawithana that the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme should cover reforming media as well, said it will bring positive changes to media. “Sun will shine on certain media institutions as a result of the Clean Sri Lanka programme,” she said.

MP Egodawithana said certain media institutions do not live up to their names. He said the Clean Sri Lanka programme should address this issue.

The Prime Minister informed the House that a two day debate on the Clean Sri Lanka programme on January 21st and 22nd.

“We have got a mandate for social transformation rather than a mere change of government. Therefore the Clean Sri Lanka programme will bring such a transformation. Sri Lanka will become a nation of smiling people as a result of this programme,” the Premier said.

She said institutions pertaining to the Clean Sri Lanka Programme will be legally constituted soon. “There will be a national level Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat under the President while there will be district level and village level. There will also be a Clean Sri Lanka fund. People could participate in the programme actively and they could also provide financial assistance for it,” the Prime Minister added.
