’Clean Sri Lanka’ starts only on Feb 01, don’t get confused: Govt

Amid uncertainties over the 'Clean Sri Lanka' project which has received both positive and negative feedback, a Deputy Minister clarified that the project is slated to be implemented only on February 01.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said, “The month of January is the period during which we raise awareness about the project."

“The project is not only confined to keeping the environment clean or removing additional items on buses and three wheelers. It is a much broader one, which is set to address a spate of issues in society in general,” he pointed out.

However, he said some attempt to confine the project to a cleaning project whereas it aims to create a cleaner environment and inspire people across the country to follow strong moral values.

“This project focuses on promoting a culture of cleanliness and care for the environment. It encourages people to change their behaviour (in how they think, feel, and act) and works to improve systems that support responsibility, good ethics and strong values to build a better society,” Dr Gunasena added.
