Committee to conduct threat assessments on Presidential candidates

Colombo, July 17 (Daily Mirror)- President Ranil Wickremesinghe submitted a Cabinet Paper proposing the appointment of a committee to conduct threat assessments on Presidential candidates and former Presidents to ensure their required security in view of the forthcoming Presidential election, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.

The Cabinet Paper also seeks to appoint a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to oversee these security arrangements, the PMD said.

@ Dee, Once Japan and Germany were hated by the world. Look at them now. Current example is the Philippines where everyone taught the party most despised and chase out the sitting President many years ago is back in power and doing a good job so far. The ideology is important and if they have changed with the times, should give them a chance as the current system is too corrupt and biased. It’s so one sided and a few are benefitIng. Majority are suffering way too long and find no hope for their children’s future too.

But there isn't a system to investigate the blunders committed by the ex-presidents. Example former president Maithripala Sirisena appointed illegally (without the approval of the board) his brother Kumarasinghe as the chairman of Srilanka Telecom which was doing pretty well during that time. Kumarasinghe was clueless about Telecommunication technology. And at the end of his term SLT was burdened with Rs 70 billion to various banks. Most disturbing fact was he was drawing a salary of 7 million per month. Sadly our National Telecom is up for sale and no inquiries held on this mega blunder committed by the president.
