Compensation of Rs. 4.2 Mn awarded to family of slain Sub-Inspector

Colombo, Jan 03 - (Daily Mirror) - In the aftermath of the tragic shooting incident in Weligama that claimed the life of Sub-Inspector Upul Chaminda on December 31, 2023, a compensation amounting to Rs. 4.2 million has been granted to his family.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe contributed a substantial sum of Rs. 2.5 million. In addition, the Sri Lanka Police contributed Rs. 1.7 million towards the compensation.

The ceremony for the disbursement of funds took place with Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles presenting Rs. 2.5 million on behalf of the President, while Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon handed over Rs. 1.7 million to the family.

The tragic incident unfolded during a police raid near a Weligama hotel, resulting in the death of SI Upul Chaminda and injuring another police officer.

There is NO reference to Ranil's Contribution as Imputed!!!??? There are ONLY President's and "Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennekoon handed over Rs. 1.7 million to the family", which understandably, means the former is from the President as Commander-in-Chief and head of President's Fund and the latter from the Police Department and Police Welfare Fund headed by the IGP head of the Police Department!!? SL citizens’ incorrectly believed that Hambantota Development Fund (HDF) was the personal Funds of Medamulana Walauwe (MMW) inhabitant’s contribution for affected in SL Southern Province, which truthfully ISN’T the case!? MYTH!? Reality, contributions were Californian and other US were from well-intentioned US citizens’, generous contribution, intended upliftment of all affected, ‘DOWN-TRODDEN POPULACE’ of SL – 26/12/2004 “Boxing Day Asian Tsunami’!? “MMW’ ‘fooled’ electorate High-Jacked for political gain!?

How about compensation to the families murdered in broad day light by the forces. Especially the soldier who was given a death sentence and was released by the president. Unbelievable this sort of things are happening in the 21st century in Sri Lanka. It’s very sad Britain gave independence to Ceylon.

This will offer some relief to the bereaved family. However, no amount of money can compensate for the loss suffered by an ailing mother, a beloved wife and the officer's children. What action will be taken against the trigger-happy perpetrators of the dastardly act? Looks as if they were shooting to kill, which is certainly NOT the use of minimal force.

Nice drama. Isnt this public money. Paying from rw pockets or tirans pocket is fine but throwing money like this is not acceptable. Officer should get compensation after court gives a verdict. One should investigate if the officer was killed purposely by government as a properganda work
