Colombo, December 16 (Daily Mirror) - A civil society representative today (16) lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) alleging that former minister Namal Rajapaksa received preferential treatment during a law examination 11 years ago.
The complaint was submitted by Jamuni Kamantha Thushara, Chairman of the Citizen's Movement Against Fraud, Corruption, and Waste.
Addressing the media after filing the complaint, Kamantha Thushara claimed there is evidence suggesting that Rajapaksa fraudulently obtained his law degree.
Thushara further alleged that Rajapaksa was assisted by two lawyers in a private room while sitting for his law exam. He urged the CID to investigate the matter promptly.
“If it is proven that Namal Rajapaksa’s law degree is fraudulent, the degree should be revoked immediately, and legal action must be taken against all officials involved,” Thushara demanded.
Meanwhile, following the recent resignation of Speaker Ashoka Ranwala over controversies surrounding his doctorate, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa called on government MPs to resign if they cannot provide evidence of their educational qualifications.
