Colombo, January 9 (Daily Mirror) - A video of a concrete-loaded mixer truck pushing a car at the Orugodawatta junction has gone viral on social media, showing two people injured and damage caused to signal posts and a safety fence.
Initially, the truck collided with a bus before crashing into the car.
The Maligawatta police reported that the incident occurred on November 22, 2024. The concrete mixer truck struck the back of a hybrid car due to mechanical failure.
According to the video, the truck driver was unable to control the vehicle as it continued to push the car. People in the area were seen trying to stop the truck by placing various objects under its tires.
The police reported that they instructed bystanders to cut the truck’s diesel fuel lines to bring it to a halt.
The car was pushed several meters by the truck, causing significant damage to traffic signal posts and the road. Five passengers were in the car, and two of them were admitted to Colombo National Hospital with minor injuries.
The injured individuals are residents of the Wattala area. The Maligawatta police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
The truck driver fled the scene but later surrendered to the police. He was released on bail after being produced in court.
