Constitutional Council greenlights Deshabandu Tennakoon as Acting IGP

Colombo (Daily Mirror) - The Constitutional Council has given its nod to the appointment of Deshabandu Tennakoon as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

The approval, granted on Friday (Dec. 01), comes on the heels of Tennakoon officially assuming his duties on the morning of November 30, just a day after his appointment.

Formerly serving as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) responsible for the Western Province, Tennakoon has big shoes to fill as the acting IGP.

Functionality of CC was questioned in Parliament recently and the President appointed some Committee to report on that. If the CC sat to decide on the suitability of Deshabandu to be appointed acting IG, on the face of everything some duress applied on CC is visible

The Constitutional Council has shown that it is obsolete. This council is intended to ensure that only honorable women and men are allowed to hold the highest offices in the country and not criminal and corrupt scumbags without ethics like Deshabandu Tennakoon, who has continually disqualified himself as a police leader in recent years.

The CC seems to be just a rubber stamp. What are they supposed to do when a person is named for any responsible position by the President ? Even if someone who has committed numerous offences is nominated by the President, what is the purpose of the CC if they are going to blindly approve ?

There are so many S/DIGs in the Police Department with unblemished service record and never get a chance to serve the Country appropriately. The appointment of a criminal like Deshabandu is merely for the servile of top politicians like Ranil/Mahinda/Alas etc especially next year being an election year he will employ his criminal gang all over the country. Only we need is a well organised ARAGALAYA to counter attack these parayas
