Colombo, Feb. 4 (Daily Mirror)- President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his Independence Day message invited all Sri Lankans, at home and abroad, to contribute their utmost energy to the noble mission of rebuilding the nation.
The President said,“as we commemorated the 75th year of our nation’s independence, we encountered the indignity of being labeled a financially bankrupt country. Nevertheless, upon the advent of the 76th Independence Day, we have effectively navigated through these challenges, steering the economy toward stability despite numerous impediments and challenges.
Achievements were realized progressively, owing to the steadfast support of our citizens who endured hardships in keeping with a comprehensive, long-term national rebuilding programme.throughout this journey, challenges will gradually dissipate, life’s burdens will lighten, the economy will fortify and Mother Sri Lanka will undergo a renaissance.
Upon gaining independence in 1948, global expectations envisioned Sri Lanka evolving into a developed nation in the East, given our favourable background. Regrettably, we deviated from this course and found ourselves grappling with economic difficulties.
It is imperative that we obtain insights from past mistakes and avoid their repetition.with the current growth trajectory acknowledged globally, let us collectively resolve on this Independence Day to persist on this path and reinstate prosperity.
I invite all Sri Lankans, at home and abroad, to contribute their utmost energy to the noble mission of rebuilding our nation," the message added.

Man without a “Mandate” lives in an imaginary world of his own and the Rouges in the Parliament. No Democracy in Sri Lanka. What a pathetic situation.

That doesn't matter. Country is not just his. Rebuilding efforts will benefit all of us. Don't be a blind fool with your narrow political mindset.

Thank you Mr. President! We understand that you undertook a difficult task to steer the country out of the economic crisis while being compelled to sit with crooks in the Cabinet. There was no one else who was willing to take on this task when offered to them! Everyone wanted you to fail. But you managed to bring us out of the misery of petrol and gas queues and power cuts to where we stand now while facing mud thrown at you by the Opposition and by the brainwashed public who believe everything that the Opposition and the media doles out. These are the people who voted for Pohottuwa and caused the economic crisis. We wish you more strength to carry the country forward. If you do not get elected as the next President, we will always remember that you tried and brought us out of the misery of the past.

Ranil needs SLPP to carry on Monday, 05 February 2024 07:32 AM
Ranil needs to stand on his own with some of the younger SLPP guys who have assisted him so far. All know without SLPP support, Ranil has no power as his UNP team was written off.

Please abide the LAW OF THE COUNTRY. Do NOT endorse bills without adhering to court order. Do NOT supress people's freedom of expression which is the fundamental rights of all people. Please RECOGNISE and RESPECT the freedom of expression of all cirizen; Otherwise it is meaningless to celebrate this independence day. WE ALL LOVE MOTHER SRI LANKA more than YOU.

Where there's no freedom of expression, there's no room for creativity, innovation, and courage to explore new paths and scale newer heights.

Very true but we need the JVP to achieve this noble goal. First you and your criminal friends must be put in prison for Sri Lanka to achieve this goal.

Gunadasa Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:23 PM
Where was JVP when they were given the task but opted to play hide and seek without taking any responsibilities to bring the country back from bankruptcy? If elected, will the JVP able to develop the economy while following failed socialist ideologies only practiced in failed countries such as North Korea and Cuba?

Patriot and Gunadasa are writing horoscope for unborn babies. Gunadasa talks of Cuba and north koria and say JVP will fallow their economic theories. Gunadasa just go through their economic polices which were stated in their web site clearly, further fallow the period that AKD ran the ministry of Agriculture and animal husbandry as the minister for one and half years. Dont make unfounded unproved allegations without any truth in it.

How can we celebrate and contribute to Independence, when you are not controlling the thieves and you compensate them with another portfolio.Do you believe this type of economy will flourish. When country has gone to bankrupt due to mismanagement, fraud and corruption not a single person is jail. And now we do not have enough resources because most of them are sold or given for long term lease by Rajapakse brothers.

People are already rallying around you silently. Most of those who actually work are silent and know very well the effort you have put so far and the change you made in the country. Because they can feel it. Those who shout against you are the minority who don't do anything to the betterment of this country. Let's stop their ridiculous chaos they make everyday soon. Country's future is decided by the silent voters who are the majority. Not noisy few.

For the noble mission of rebuilding the nation, first step should be for all the over 65s to retire gracefully Second step should be to bring all those who defrauded the public money to face the law.

How can he steer this country out of economic crisis because he also responsible for bankrupting this country This is like asking the thief to catch the thief thieves. He has no mandate to do any thing because the people have rejected him and the UNP politics completely from this country hence he should resign immediately and go for an election instead wasting our money.

Disadvantaged Citizens of Sri Lanka will always contribute their utmost energy to rebuild the nation without your presence ! You had so many chances to do that in the past, but the public is so disappointed and tired of your conducts , lies, performance and dictatorship. Please give someone else chance who is capable to run the country as poor citizens have suffered enough and they deserve a better life!

Rebuilding the country is the duty of all citizens. Destroying it is the duty of all our politicians. One effort will cancel out the other. A great leader of south India, Dr. C.N. Annadurai once said to the people “ ask yourself what you have done for the country instead of asking what the country has done for you”

Man- if you are serious in what you are preaching now please show us by the following deeds: i. Bring those who corruptly amassed wealth especially the "Southern Family" to the courts and throw them behind bars for a minim of 15 years. ii. Listen to cries of the minority and give them a fair go. iii. Like Singapore bring English, Sinhala and Tamil as the official language. iv. Punish without favour for those who indulge in corruption so that no one will dare think of this treacherous act. v. Give equal rights for all religions- be it Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity or Islam. vi. As a change bring a minority Tamil as a President and show the world we have truly turned a page. FOLLOW THESE RULES AND SEE HOW THE WORLD WILL RALLEY BEHIND SRI LANKA TO BUILD THE COUNTRY!

Ee need to rebuild for sure but first of all relieve the people of the unbearable cost of living before there are more thieves and beggars than ever before! Give relief to the seniors by way of raising their FD interests, travel free of charge on public transport, the list is long.. Mr President, if you care to see and observe while travelling in your super luxury vehicle, you will surely see how many old people have been left on the road to beg! And there are people who cannot beg, so they strange themselves by eating just one meal a day! This is so pathetic!
