Cop interdicted after youth accuse him of planting cannabis during traffic check



Colombo, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - A police constable has been interdicted following a viral video on social media in which he allegedly attempted to arrest a group of youth by planting cannabis in their car during a traffic check.

The incident, which occurred on July 24 in Kollupitiya, involved a car stopped by police officers. 

The car, coming from the Grandpass area, had about five men inside. In the video, the youth accused the police officer of trying to place cannabis in the car to extort money after spotting cash inside.

Following an inquiry by SSP Ravindra Ambepitiya, the constable from the Kollupitiya Police has been interdicted. The charges include betel chewing while in uniform and improperly conducting a vehicle search without the driver or any passengers present.

The Kollupitiya Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
