Court of Appeal orders increase in doctors’ retirement age to 63 Years

Colombo, Dec 15 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal issued an order today, extending the retirement age of all doctors to 63 years.

The two-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, comprising Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Vikum Kaluarachchi, made this order following a writ petition filed by 176 consultant specialist doctors challenging the Cabinet of Ministers' decision dated 17-10-2022.

Who is paying? In my country retirement age is 67 years and 3 months for all working people.

You are right. Don't also forget to mention the dozens of bankholidays, religious festivals etc. in Sri Lanka. No workspirit at all and still they are surprised about the poor state of their country.

Can the Cabinet show one Cabinet paper which it has failed to approve? Be it beneficial or detrimental to the country, each and every paper gets the green light. So intelligent and so concerned are the bunch of Ministers we have.

Why is SL going to the extent of even setting retirement ages? In countries like Australia, UK, US and many others, there is no retirement age as long as the person is competent in doing the job and has the right skills. By the same token, if the person is not competent, he or she gets sacked/retrenched regardless of age. This is practised in both private and public sector equally. SL has so many unsuitable useless people wasting money in plum jobs, and then get a pension.

It's time to set all politicians retirement age as 55 years and all professionals retirement age as 65 if we are looking for some sort of future for this country. So that if any politicians do any misdoing to public funds they can spent their retirement in incommunicado solitary confinements.
