Covid-19 cases of Peliyagoda-Minuwangoda cluster exceed 5,000

A total of 293 COVID-19 patients were detected a short while ago surging the total positive cases of Peliyagoda-Minuwangoda cluster to 5,232.

The Government Information Department said among the cases, 291 are close contacts of the Peliyagoda Fish Market while two cases were reported from the quarantine centres.

Meanwhile, according to the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19, out of the cases reported yesterday, a majority of 304 patients were reported from the Gampaha district while 191 positive cases were detected from the Colombo district.

In addition, one case each was reported from Kegalle, Kandy, Badulla and Puttalam districts.

A total of 42 persons undergoing quarantine also tested positive.

Accordingly, the new cases detected yesterday surpassed the 8,000 mark of the total confirmed cases reported so far from Sri Lanka.

The total confirmed positive cases stand at 8,706 as of this evening.

Meanwhile, the number of patients recovered from COVID-19 increased to 4,043 with 110 recoveries reported today. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

It's high time the authorities stop calling 'identified cluster' and seriously look at overcoming this situation along with the people. People take the word 'cluster' for a joke now!

The public should be told what kind of treatment they are giving in the quarantine centres, so that people can follow the same as treatment and as prevention at home. The treatment at the quarantine centres worked well. So far news says of hand washing, isolation, social distance and sanitizers. If they are being given some medicine or coriyander hot drink as let the people know. Then people island wide will follow that advice.
