Death of Sanath Nishantha, great loss to Mahinda Rajapaksa, party and people



Colombo, Jan 25 (Daily Mirror) - The death of State Minister Sanath Nishantha is a great loss to former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, to the party and to the people in the Puttalam, Urban Development and Housing, Chief Government Whip and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He told the media that Sanath Nishantha had worked for the people in the Puttalam and Chilaw districts. He met with the accident while in his way Colombo after participating in two occasions in Puttalam and Chilaw.

His official residence in Puttalam was burned down on May 9 during the Aragalaya protests. Therefore, he did not have a home to rest in Puttalam, and the accident occurred while he was returning to Colombo.

Moreover, he said that Sanatha Nishantha had participated in an event held at the Australian High Commission after parliament sessions yesterday.

According to police investigations, the driver of the State Minister was not under the influence of alcohol, Minister Ranatunga said.

Meanwhile, MP Chamal Rajapaksa and MP Sanjeewa Edirimanna told the media that Sanath Nishantha was a great strength to the party and to the district. The loss of the State Minister cannot be filled by anyone, they said.
