Debate on debt restructuring postponed

Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - The debate on the agreement which Sri Lanka has singed with creditor nations on the debt restructuring process which was to begin tomorrow in Parliament has been postponed.

The Parliament Communications Unit said party leaders decided not to take up the debate on the debt restructure process when they met today.

However President Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to make a special statement in the House.

Also it has been decided not hold sessions on Wednesday as a mark of respect to TNA MP R. Sampathan. His remains are to be brought to Parliament on Wednesday for the MPs to pay their last respect.

Why is it that important matter has been postponed? The country should come up with a solution to this issue and it is said that all arrangements have been made on this matter why should delay ñow .. Government may change and the policy must be there whoever come to power if they government has already made some arrangements for repayment keep it . Look after the country and its 22m people and keep the arrangements you have made if you are defeated in the election hand over it to new administration and government to deal with it. It is very simple and it is a rocket science .

Debt restructuring was a failure. Only bilateral creditors have agreed. They are very small compared to bond loans. Bond holders and multilateral creditors have not come to the party.

What's there to debate? Debates are delays. Pres should make the decisions and get it done.
