Colombo, December 29 (Daily Mirror)- The defence forces will be employed exclusively for their primary role of military assignments in defending the country, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) said.
He said this while addressing the Navy Passing Out Parade (POP), as the Chief Guest, at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee last evening.
He said the government is taking maximum efforts to modernise the defence forces with latest technologies and equipment.
"In addition, we ensure that our defence forces will be employed exclusively for their primary role of military assignments in defending our country. We expect to undertake a review of the armed forces structure to ensure optimal utilisation of resources and to enhance the operational efficiency by implementing targeted recruitment and focusing on quality over quantity in personnel selection," he said.
The Defence Secretary further said the war heroes deserve honour and respect for today, tomorrow and always for the supreme sacrifices that they have made to give the people a better future.
