Depression in Southwest Bay of Bengal to intensify, near east coast

Colombo, November 26 (Daily Mirror) - The depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal was located approximately 410 km southeast of Trincomalee last night.

It is expected to move northwestward, intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours, and approach the country’s east coast, the Meteorology Department said.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into deep and shallow sea areas around the island till further notice.

Regarding weather conditions, the Department said that showers are expected in the sea areas surrounding the island.

Winds in these areas will be north-easterly, with speeds of 40-50 kmph, occasionally increasing to 60-70 kmph.

Sea conditions around the island will be rough to very rough at times, with temporarily strong gusty winds and extremely rough seas during thundershowers.
