Derailment disrupts train services on Colombo-Badulla main line

Badulla, August 16 (Daily Mirror)- Train service on the Colombo-Badulla main line came to a standstill this afternoon due to a derailment at Demodara.

A senior official of the Nawalapitiya Control Room said one of the goods wagons in the Kandy bound train from Badulla had derailed when it was approaching the Demodara railway station.

He said a team was scheduled to arrive from Badulla to restore services.

A significant number of tourists use this line. Each person pays US$ 50 just to enter Sri Lanka let alone other costs. Where does the money go? There have been so many derailments along this line in the last few years. There are other countries that allows visa free travel and they have better more convenient transport systems. When will Sri Lanka learn how to do things right?

The only option to eliminate these derailments on this important tourist route is to seek India's assistance to replace the tracks at critical places, similar to that they have done to the Northern line.

If we need India's assistance to perform something simple like removing damaged sleepers and strengthening the track, why do we need Sri Lankan engineers? Why do the government pay so much public money to keep Sri Lankan engineers? What do they really do?

This is too frequent. Even the Supreme Court Interim order has been derailed by the Vultures Immigration dept/ Secretary and the Minister. The Interim Order was to revert back to the old scheme of issuing Online Visdas to tourists by ImmD
