Diana Gamage’s citizenship issue to be heard on January 26 by Court of Appeal

A writ petition filed seeking an order declaring State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage is disqualified to be a Member of Parliament since she is a British citizen was today fixed for hearing by Court of Appeal.

Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola fixed the petition for hearing l on January 26.(Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

This is exactly how our judiciary works for the corrupt, keep pushing and delaying until it fades away. Can she not answer this question by admitting which nationality she holds? Clearly, if she is Sri Lankan she would not create all this diversion, she would have owned it up and proved it by now, that is human nature, except for a corrupt Sri Lankan. Sadly, not a single pohottuwa has the guts to challenge her, although they know the truth.

The problem is that Sri Lanka does not have a system to find out who has relinquished citizenship. Diana's case highlights this broken system. Sri Lankan foreign passport holders need to self-report. Foreign governments don't work with Sri Lankan embassies to inform who acquired citizenship. This needs to be fixed so those in power will serve the interests of the country and protect its conservative values.

Any Sri Lankan can have other citizenships, that is not the issue. A foreign citizen cannot be a parliamentarian and this is very clear. It is not even a question of dual nationalities. The SL passport is her possession was received by not declaring her true citizenship and submitting false documents, and some boot licker has helped her in the process. This person too is guilty and should be treated a criminal.

She already declared that if her citizenship issue cause her to loose the parliamentary seat she will takeaway the seats of other SJB parliamentarians. She says that SJB the Sajith Jalani Balasena will loose in any election, if she looses her seat.
