Diana indicted before High Court for unlawful dual citizenship

Colombo, August 27 (Daily Mirror)- The Attorney General has filed an indictment before the Colombo High Court against former State Minister Diana Gamage in connection with the alleged unlawful dual citizenship incident.

The indictment, consisting of three counts, was served on Diana Gamage when she appeared before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne.

The Attorney General filed the indictment against Diana Gamage on three counts, including holding illegal dual citizenship and obtaining a Sri Lankan passport by furnishing false information between October 9, 2004, and December 1, 2004.

Parliamentarians found guilty of corruption, any other illegal acts, money laundring, passport fraud , any form of conspiracy etc, should revoke their parliamentary seats, and should be barred from contesting any elections or holding any public office for life.

Many people have not registered their second citizenship in Sri Lanka because immigration charges exorbitant fees. In Germany, it is now also permitted to take on a second citizenship, but I do not have to report this to the German authorities. With dual citizenship, I can become a member of parliament and hold any public and political office. Why is this so complicated in Sri Lanka?
