Distressed wild elephant rescued following Yoshitha’s intervention

A wild elephant who was in pain after falling into a ditch in the Puthur area in Vavuniya was rescued by authorities following the urgent intervention of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, who came across the video footage of the distressed animal.

The elephant is reported to have fallen into the ditch around two weeks ago but it is alleged that wildlife officials had failed to respond to the cries of help.

After coming across the video footage of the distressed animal, Yoshitha requested wildlife officials to urgently intervene and recuse the animal.

The elephant was rescued by a team of wildlife officers and military personnel days after being trapped in the ditch. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
