Do not sign English bank agreement forms: Business Alliance urges public

Colombo, March 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka United National Businesses Alliance (SLUNBA) requested businessmen and the people to reject signing relevant bank agreement forms if they are not provided in Sinhala as well.

Addressing the media, SLUNBA Deputy Chairman Susantha Liyanaarachchi urged individuals not to sign English loan agreements from today, as many of these agreements do not clearly state their specified requirements.

After the Cabinet decision to suspend the parate rights of banks till December 15, banks have acquired the properties of the people, he said.

"As there is a significant number of banks operating within the country, the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) today requested the President to issue immediate notes to close those banks if they cannot pass loans for them," he said.

According to the statement issued by the Sri Lanka Bankers Association, they have to close their banks if they cannot conduct business with SMEs, Liyanaarachchi said.

If the state take such a draconian decision, the corporate sektor would grind to a half. The better way is to issue at least partial loan guaranties by the government.

Bank can choose not to give loan if consumer or business makes things too expensive for them, and if they need to re-write a document just in Sri Lanka, they could make it more favourable to to the bank. Complete idiot group the SLUNBA. If banks cannot get their money, then depositors will lose out too eventually.

Don't try to dictate to the Banks how their forms should be printed. If the customers are not satisfied with the English language they could obtain a translation in the vernacular expending the cost of it as done by many who suspect the veracity of the Bank forms. It seems this so called Sri Lanka Business Alliance was of recent origin with a mix of loan defaulters!!!!!!!!!!

This guy is undoubtedly from the outskirts of the city because he doesn't seem to understand that the business language in Sri Lanka is English or/and how to speak in it. The same situation happened at SLMC; Villagers who are appointed to certain positions do not want someone with the necessary skills, particularly in language, to fill them. I just had to hire a sworn translator to translate my son's paperwork. She translated straight from the Google translation tool, which I eventually had to fix.
