Colombo, March 4 (Daily Mirror) - Children should not be sent to schools to make them merely pass exams by creating a competitive environment as the target of education is to equip children with knowledge and attitudes as well as skills, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

Addressing the media, he said the proposed educational reforms show the measurement of skills acquired by the child in practical activities.

He made these comments while joining the national programme held today at Dharmashoka Vidyalaya, Maharagama to introduce the Activity Based Oral English (ABOE) programme to schools for children who will enter Grade 1 in 2024.

Minister, When you sent your children to school were you of that mindset. My guess is No. Introduction of English is good. Education programs must not change with change of governments but must stay for at least 10 years

After all you too with all your qualifications, experience and political back ground experience are also underestimated compared to some of your colleagues who are being promoted higher than your level and do not have even an OL or even grade 8 qualification. Mr.Education minister, please make sure the teachers are teaching the syllabus in the school. Find out why children need to attend private tuition conducted by the same teacher who are supposed to teach the same in the classroom.
