Presidential candidate Dullas Allahapperuma and his prime ministerial candidate Sajith Premadasa have agreed to fulfill demands put forward by the TNA in a meeting held today evening which included the release of all political prisoners and the release of all private lands, including those occupied by the army and archeological sites in the North and East.
A senior TNA source who attended the meeting said that some of the other demands put forward included the Office of Missing Persons (OMP) restarting inquiries into missing persons, the Sri Lankan government must cooperate with the UN Human Rights resolution and a process must start to resolve the Tamil national issue.
Both Dullas and Sajith had agreed to the demands laid down by the TNA and only after this was accepted that the TNA said they would support Dullas in the presidential race tomorrow.
SLPP MP G.L. Peiris also attended the meeting. (Jamila Husain)

You are not interest in SriLanka and need only power. First you should be kicked out before greedy Ranil. Today is the last day ever hold a position because you dug your own grave. Get lost!

As a neutral Tamil from north, I feel TNA's demands are resonable. But they should stop using the word "Tamil National Issue", we are all Srilankans and should stop looking things as Tamil issue, Sinhala issue and Muslim issues. We need politicians who will look at us as Srilankans and solve the countries national issues.

No! TNA tries to regroup the LTTE TAMIL TERRORIST once again, then there will be no UNITED SRI LANKA. Do not heed to disunite Sri Lanka in anyway.

Once in power in keeping with past conduct all the demands will be ignored. This will result in India, other countries and the international organisations realising once again we cannot be trusted. IMF money may be delayed and our well fed rotund monks will have to cutdown in their meals

Cholmondeley Pinto Wednesday, 20 July 2022 02:58 AM
What else? 13th amendment India will insist on that as a condition of providing aid. The Aragalaya are caught in a situation. May be not a bad thing after all. As the Sinhalayas have been jealous of the north developing. The Jaffna province will be the financial hub for all foreign investments. Jaffna Stock Exchange is a reality competing with CSE. Separate Parliament with separate budget and tax system like Canada and UK.

No deal to protect the Rajapkses from prosecution? No deal to maintain the Executive Presidency with all its powers and two years down the road to install Namal Rajapakse as President. No deals indeed! How naive can one be!

Thiruvengadam Ramakrishnan Wednesday, 20 July 2022 06:06 AM
Sinhala Party's consent to normalize relations with Tamils and bring to an end the "civil war" is a good sign! Hopefully, they would also implement the India-sponsored "devolution" of power. Indeed, decentralization is essential for economic growth of the country! IMF loans are not the be-all and end-all for SL! It is only the beginning of the long journey to the island's economic recovery. Only a united, contended people would give the confidence to the international community to invest. Singapore is a good example! Even 7% and 3% minorities are treated as equals by the 90% majority!

Mandate from the SB majority?? True enough talking about Mandate!! understand the meaning! That's why we are struggling now - 1 meal or no meal a day, may be for couple of days or weeks??? 1931 to 2022 - 91 years of Universal Suffrage in the country?? "Mee Harraks" must be ruling not the intelligent Sri Lankans?! Excellent??!!

Tamils are struggling very long time in North and East, even though they are Srilankans, our politicians are n't putting effort to resolve some of their basic demands over decades, why not the new government resolve if they are reasonable and develop our country into a new era.

@Karu: Why the hell you want to keep the LTTE "suspects" in jail without any trials for more than 13 years after the war has ended and Why do you want to confiscate private land belongs to private citizens? How can this be a racist agenda?

Good move by TNA, why political prisoners can't release? since all the thugs and goons and looters out side the prison in Sri Lanka and Army should remove from private land in Sri Lanka. Any people South in south allows Army in their private land? for 10 plus years

What the TNA is demanding is just and fair and those demands should be met irrespective of their votes for any candidate. Sadly, this "agreement" by Dallas and Sajith shows their true colours... What a pathetic future Sri Lanka has!!
