EC halts Opposition Leader’s ’Sakwala’ and ’Husma’ programmes

Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission (EC) has stopped Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa from conducting the Sakwala and Husma programmes to distribute IT equipment to schools and medical equipment to hospitals.

The stoppage comes two days after the Presidential elections 2024 was declared by the Commission.

Following the stoppage Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara has urged the Election Commission to act impartially.

Madduma Bandara, in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Election Commission has requested the Commission to take into consideration the programmes carried out by the government at the moment.

What harm can Sajith do? He is targeting the students who have voting rights! He is driving the school bus. That is his level of maturity. He is happily immersed with that level. We cannot expect big things from him, such national economy, National development, International relationship etc.
