EC issues guidelines on door-to-door election campaigning

Colombo, September 09 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission (EC) has issued guidelines on door-to-door election canvassing for the upcoming Presidential election.

According to Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, a maximum of five individuals are allowed to engage in door-to-door election canvassing.

“Police have been instructed to enforce the law immediately in cases where this limit is exceeded,” he stated.

The EC chief noted that complaints have been received of some political parties sending more than five people to distribute leaflets during door-to-door campaigns, a practice he described as a breach of election laws.

Further, Rathnayake emphasised that such actions are a primary cause of various disputes during the election period.

Can the EC also give the right to the public to beat up any such henchmen and not to be charged/persecuted?

Allowing door-to-door canvassing is a breach of election law, when Rajapaksas were in power, they never allowed anyone to paste-posters or canvass door-to-door either, once those who have decided to vote for a person will never change their mind in anyway to vote Ranil, who the people believe, it is utmost important to expunge Ranil on 21 in a Presidential Election. Sending Ranil home to protect our Island nation is vital. With the support of the US and India, Ranil helps trespass our nation by Indian LTTE Tamil Terrorists which, once again, had been defeated by Rajapaksas' regime with hard sacrifies.

Why not investigate Benthara, Alpitiya areas? They go from house to house at night to "educate" people, but what they are doing is brainwashing innocent people to vote for AKD. Why can't they allow people to make their own choices.

Guide lines are good is everyone sticks by them, Otherwise how will EC enforce adherence. Waste of time and money.
