EC mobilises key institutions for upcoming election

Colombo, June 29 - As the call for an election approaches, the Election Commission has informed several key institutions to prepare for the upcoming Presidential election.

Among those notified are the Government Printing Department, the Inspector General of Police, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, and the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

Government Printer Gangani Kalpana Liyanage confirmed that all necessary arrangements are ready, pending the Election Commission's announcement of the election date.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Election Commission R.M.A.L. Ratnayake stated these measures are aimed at ensuring smooth election proceedings.

The Election Commission recently announced that the Presidential election will be held between September 14 and October 16.

EC staff are mindlessly following laws and constitution. That may work in Sri Lanka of 1950s, but political culture has become mature now. Everything happens only for political expediency, and if President and Parliament want to stay in power for 61 more years even they will change laws to make it happen.
