EC to meet striking Grama Niladhari officers

Colombo, August 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission is scheduled to meet with the striking members of the All-Island Grama Niladhari Officers’ Association to ensure the smooth conduct of duties related to the Presidential election.

According to R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, Chairman of the Election Commission, the officers had previously agreed to perform all duties related to the Presidential election despite the strike.

However, the Commission has arranged this discussion with the relevant officers to prevent any potential disruption to the election process.

The Grama Niladhari officers have announced their plans to withdraw from all duties today (12) and tomorrow (13).

It is illegal to neglect the job of a government official specially during an election time. Someone should take these union leaders to SC. Do whatever strike after election or before election time is gazetted.

To woo the pensioner vote a Rs 6000 increase is given from October. Before such increases the the running services must go on and the government gave a blind eye to grama Niladhari issues. It will not be easy for EC to fix them

LOOKS LIKE THERE IS MORE TO COME, SOME SECRET HANDS AND TONGUES HAVE BEEN MEETING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS TO BRING ABOUT DISRUPTION IN TOURIST VISAS, OVERHAUL OF IMMIGRATION DEPT, INCREASES TO PENSIONERS AND NOW THE ALL ISLAND G.N.O.ASSOCIATION WANTS TO STAGE A STRIKE WITH ELECTIONS AROUND THE CORNER. A FULL INVESTIOGATION SHOULD BE HAD TO LOOK DEEPER INTO THE ISSUES. STRANGE THESE ISSUES/CHANGES AND THE LIKES ARE OUT IN THE OPEN CLOSE TO A ELECTION. This is the plan of Ranil, throwing in millions to GS trade unionist to make the GS to strike in order to postpone the elections keeping this as a reason. They will have to update the Registration Register.

Election commissioner should not allow them to strike after calling for the election. Sending them for duties are important than stopping government development program.

Government Sleepers are on a strike means that, they need additional election work allowance which is only once in five years. Ranil was requested to takeover, when accordingly, it should be the opposition leader who should takeover; but unfortunately no one came forward. Now the cake is ready and about to exit the oven, everyone wanted to become president, even Namal.
