Colombo, August 01 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission (EC) has urged the presidential candidates to place cash deposits for the upcoming Presidential Election as early as possible.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake advised submitting cash deposits early to avoid potential last-minute hiccups.
As of yesterday (31), five candidates have placed cash deposits.
Accordingly, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sarath Keerthirathne placed cash deposits as Independent candidates while Oshala Herath from the 'Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna', ASP Liyanage from Sri Lanka Worker's Party also placed cash deposits.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa became the latest to place cash deposits.
The nominations would be accepted till August 15.
The Election Commission officially announced that the Presidential Election would be conducted on September 21.
Meanwhile, the EC yesterday summoned Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, and Senior Deputy Inspector of Police (SDIG) Asanga Karavita to address the ongoing issue surrounding the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
