EU extends ban on LTTE for six more months

The European Union (EU) has renewed its ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for an additional six months, reaffirming its commitment to combat terrorism.

This decision, made by the Council of the EU on 26 July 2024, is part of the ongoing measures under the Common Position 2001/931/CFSP.

The renewal means that the LTTE, along with other listed persons, groups and entities, will continue to face financial sanctions. These sanctions include the freezing of funds and other financial assets or economic resources in EU member states. Moreover, EU entities are prohibited from providing funds and economic resources to the proscribed organizations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo issued a statement today, acknowledging the EU's decision and its implications for global efforts against terrorism.

They should take Sri Lanka for an example! This country is so democratic that former subversive parties can even contest elections with a different symbol and people will vote! Shows how backward EU is! They don’t know the pulse of the people.
