A schoolboy from Kudalihena in Kolonna died when his house was buried by an earth slip in the early hours of this morning. 

The victim Achla Akalanka was an Advanced Level student of the Dorapane National School. 

Residents of the area and the police said it took about one and a half hours to remove the mound of earth to trace him and admit him to the hospital only to be pronounced dead. 

Several areas in the Kolonna secretarial division have experienced torrential rain since Sunday night (22) disrupting civilian life. A senior official of the Divisional Disaster Management Centre told the media that traffic on several roads had come to a standstill and the power supply had broken down. 

Meanwhile, the Dorapane National School and Dapane Primary School were closed due to poor attendance. (Ajithlal Shanthaudaya and Jayantha Nanayakkara)
