Earth’s second moon visible from Sunday

Colombo, September 27 (Daily Mirror) - Astroid 2024 PT5, which the scientists call the second moon of the Earth, is to become visible from Sunday (29).

Chairman Arthur C. Clarke Centre for Modern Technology, Professor Chandana Jayaratne said the object will be visible from Sunday.

The asteroid will enter the earth's orbit on Sunday and will travel with the moon for a period of about two months. It will be released from Earth's gravity thereafter.

The object is too small and dim for typical amateur telescopes and binoculars. However, the object is well within the brightness range of typical telescopes used by professional astronomers. A telescope with a diameter of at least 30 inches plus a CCD or CMOS detector is needed to observe this object; a 30-inch telescope and a human eye behind it will not be enough.

Largest telescope in sri lanka is in Arthur C Clark Center and it is just 45cm (less than 18in) Professor Chandana Jayaratne Is the worst thing happened to Sri Lankan astronomy. He pretends to be an astronomer and spews out lies about things he does not understand. Sri Lankan media should ask about these from someone with the correct background in astronomy like Dr. Kavan Ranatunga. Prof. Jayarathne’s background is atmospheric physics. He is widely shunned by the astronomy community in Sri Lanka for these kind of sensational lies.
