Eggs will be imported again within next 10 days: STC

Colombo, August 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation (STC) today announced that the import of eggs will resume within the next 10 days.

STC chairman Asiri Valisundara said the related procurement activities are currently underway.

Accordingly, it is planned to import 30 million eggs per month, he said.

After importing the sticks of eggs, an egg will be sold in the local market for less than Rs. 50.

Currently, an egg is being sold at a price of more than Rs. 50 in the local market.

True according to the deal, now the rotten eggs also allowed to be here and there to be mixed, if Minister's commission to be doubled or more. Minister had already given the green light to do so, all what he need is the commission. that's it.

Seeing the comments, people have no clue how much eggs are sold at and have no clue how many rotten eggs we get at fancy prices from local mafia. Having had 100's of imported eggs as soon as they were released to consumers, not one was spoilt. Sadly after a few purchases (around 30) from the local stuff, 2 were spoilt. Now again we have stopped buying local eggs.

Overall quality of eggs in the market appears to be low are any authority conduct a quality check on the imports to identify whether it fits for human consumption .

Pay the local farmer in foreign exchange the scarcity will disappear better than handing the exchange to the Indian exporter, many small farmers will benefit, incentive for them to produce, the country will benefit scheme can be disbanded later when self-sufficiency is reached
