Parliament, Jan. 09 (Daily Mirror)- Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera has informed the Chairman of the Election Commission in a letter that there is a vacancy in a Parliamentary seat following the resignation of Badulla District MP Chaminda Wijesiri.

The Secretary General has also informed that according to the letter by Chaminda Wijesiri, the resignation is effective from January 09, 2024.

Accordingly, in terms of Section 64(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981, the Secretary General has informed the Chairman of the Election Commission that the seat of Chaminda Wijesiri in the Ninth Parliament is vacant.
