Election Commission orders removal of campaign stickers on vehicles

Colombo, September 09 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission has issued a directive for the immediate removal of election campaign stickers displayed on vehicles.

This decision follows a spate of complaints about political slogans and stickers being placed on private buses and three-wheelers.

According to the Presidential Elections Act, displaying such materials is a violation of election laws, the Commission said in a statement.

Further, it said the police have been notified to take action against those who do not comply with the law.

why is this? Ranil is so scared. Did they put in any public places. If so, do it but, people have right to do. do not suppress them . If you do it in their houses, and in their vehicles what is issue here. do not work for Ranil it will be only for 12 days. Vote for NPP to get full freedom in this country.

If you are so confident of a NPP victory, why all this fuss about? This is not about other presidential candidates but adhering to election laws. This manifests the attitude of comrades in abiding to laws. Anyway, the majority of Sri Lankans have not forgotten how the comrades adhered to laws in the past.

If it is private property then it should not be a problem. But if it is a private vehicle used for public services like a private bus, then it should not be allowed.

Yes Malimaava culprit too. Sepal promoting too much on his Youtube videos. Better this directive applied to equally for all the candidates. Also these private buses display dashing LED lights and unncessary stickers, those are soat to the eyes. Better stop these kind of nonsense altogether.

EC is always late. Should be more strict as you have the power during an election time. Arrest anyone displaying such stickers other than the candidates so that government can get some extra revenue from these fellows who does not know the law.

First learn the Election Laws on fairness. Previous elections had posters, stickers , banners all over including Private property. There was a hue and cry against them. Even malpractices in galore. Now a political party a strong critic in those days have become so rich and wants to engage in same for their leader. Earlier බොරු සිල් වත්. To come to power by hook or by crook now is obvious intention.

We can witnessed the negative impacts of the ultimate power misuses to avoid humans democracy, people should have a right to showing off their political opinion or willingness with under proper manner. They are not mounted large banners on their vehicles, it might be just only sticker, what would be happen? Just nothing but trying to ban obsession of inherit endeavors of advertising peoples choices
